Boeing awarded fourth contract for tanker aircraftThe US Air Force has awarded Boeing a $2.9 billion contract for 18 KC-46A tanker aircraft (plus spare engines, refuelling kits and other support equipment).

With this fourth production lot, Boeing has now been contracted for 52 KC-46 tankers.

The company received the initial contract in 2011 to design and develop the 767-based KC-46A — a multi-role tanker that can refuel all allied and coalition military aircraft and can also carry passengers, cargo and patients.

Boeing is assembling the aircraft at its Everett facility in Washington, and deliveries are expected to begin later this year.

Mike Gibbons, Boeing (www.boeing.com) vice-president and KC-46A tanker programme manager, said: “We are excited to partner with the US Air Force on an aircraft that will give its fleet unmatched capabilities and versatility.

“This is another big milestone for the team, and we look forward to delivering this next-generation multi-role tanker for years to come.”
