US casting facility investment completedDoncasters — a leading manufacturer of high-precision alloy components, based in Burton-on-Trent — has completed a $15 million investment in its Groton (Connecticut) casting facility to meet strong customer demand (www.doncasters.com).

The 10,000ft2 expansion and the installation of new casting equipment have increased the capability and the capacity of the site, enabling Groton to significantly improve its service to its aero-engine customers.

The expansion has also resulted in 100 new jobs, taking the number of people employed at the site to 250.

Groton’s advanced technology and casting expertise have been developed to provide its industry-leading customer base with parts up to 45in in diameter.

This site pours vacuum-melt alloys for the manufacture of precision structural investment castings for OEM customers in the aerospace and industrial gas turbine sectors.

Groton site manager Jeremy Main said: “It’s no secret that the aviation supply chain is under immense pressure to create parts faster, and this could not be truer for the manufacture of casting components.

“We’re always looking for ways to improve the business, and expanding our Groton site allows us to give our customers a quicker service and to flourish as a supply-chain partner.”
