Gas cylinder maker invests £500,000Luxfer Gas Cylinders Ltd (www.luxfercylinders.com) — the world’s largest manufacturer of aluminium and composite gas cylinders — is investing £500,000 in its Nottingham site, as it celebrates over 120 years of trading.

This major cash injection will boost Luxfer’s alternative fuel team, which has increased its production over the past 12 months of bespoke CNG and hydrogen-power systems for buses and other types of commercial vehicles.

The company, which employs over 200 people, will invest in new manufacturing equipment and create 10 new jobs.

Luxfer has a world-wide footprint, with sites in the USA, France, China and Canada; it is also involved in joint ventures in the USA and India.

It specialises in high-pressure aluminium and composite gas cylinders, which are used in many different areas, including the aerospace sector, medical life support, and firefighting.

The Nottingham site manufactures up to one million cylinders each year.

David Sparkes, operations director, said: “Luxfer is proud to have over 120 years of history, and part of that huge success is having quality and innovation at the very heart of what we do.

“The investment in our Nottingham site will help to drive the business forward, allowing us to respond to increasing demand in industries such as alternative fuel, which is a significant growth market, given the global focus on reducing emissions.”
