MRT invests in new automated Colosio PF250

MRT invests in new automated Colosio PF250 Hampshire-based MRT Casting (www.mrt-castings.co.uk) has purchased an automated PFO250 die-casting cell from Italian manufacturer Colosio (of similar specification to an existing Colosio cell installed in 2013).

This will boost its die-casting capability for small components to meet growing demand. Due for delivery in June 2019, it will be the first machine to be installed in MRT’s new purpose-built foundry, which will be opened in the autumn.

Precision built in Brescia, the PFO250 has a locking force of 250 tonnes, which is suitable for aluminium components up to 3.5kg and is in the middle of MRT’s current size range (220 to 530 tonnes).

The new cell features real-time shot control and accurate repetition of all the injection parameters to ensure consistent high-quality casting at all times.

It also comes with a two-axis automatic die sprayer — enabling fast and effective lubrication of even the most complex die forms — plus a robotic casting extractor with an integrated cooling conveyor.

This investment reinforces MRT’s reputation as a leading UK foundry that can deliver high-quality castings within the highest tolerances.

Managing director Phil Rawnson said: “Our focus has always been on precision engineering, regardless of the size of the contract, which is what makes MRT so attractive to niche sectors, including the medical, defence and electronics industries.

“This latest addition ensures that we will continue to be an innovative provider of bespoke engineering solutions.”
