Hull-based ABP (
www.abports.co.uk) has been awarded a 12-month contract by Siemens Gamesa to provide a storage site for 37 wind-turbine blades destined for the world’s largest offshore wind farm — Hornsea One Project, 120km off the Yorkshire coast.
A six-acre area at King George Dock, is being leased for the storage of the 75m-long 30-tonne blades.
A meticulous operation is now under way to transport the fibre-glass blades nearly two miles from Alexandra Dock on a remote-control loader at 5mph.
Each blade makes the 1hr 15min journey in the early hours of the morning to minimise the disruption to port traffic.
