New ‘state of the art’ clean-room

New ‘state of the art’ clean-roomThe production of new anti-cancer drugs at ADC Bio’s North Wales plant has been boosted by the completion of a new
clean-room facility, designed and built by Gateshead-based WHP (www.whp-engineering.com), which is a multi-disciplinary engineering company.

The Deeside plant undertakes the commercial production of antibody drug conjugates in response to global customer demand; this requires a bespoke infrastructure to ensure strict compliance with the highest regulatory standards.

WHP was awarded the £5 million contract in December 2017, and the new facility — including support areas for washing, depyrogenation, thawing and buffer preparation — provides a stringently controlled environment. This eliminates any risk of microbial contaminants.

The contract covered the design and build, testing and validation of a ‘state of the art’ containment manufacturing clean-room within an existing 6,500m2 high-tech facility, along with new quality control and process development laboratories.

WHP’s project manager, Chris Douglas, said: “The new clean-room meets ADC Bio’s need to expand its operations at Deeside to include safe, secure and highly efficient manufacturing capabilities.

"This latest project reflects our growing success in delivering high quality clean-room technologies across the pharmaceutical sector, providing customers with expertise, knowledge and ‘one-stop shop’ solutions.”
