Dorset-based Meggitt plc, which specialises in high-performance components and sub-systems for the aerospace, defence and selected energy markets, has opened a newly expanded aerospace services and support facility in the USA.

This ‘centre of excellence’ in Miami will serve as the regional hub for MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) services and support.

It has more than doubled in size to 48,000ft², and there are plans to expand it by another 50% in 2020.

The site includes service and support capabilities: for fire-extinguishing systems; safety restraints; oxygen sensor systems; heat transfer systems; and mechanical, hydraulic, electronic and avionic systems.

The Miami location currently serves all the major American airlines, as well as key OEMs such as Collins Aerospace, Rolls-Royce, GE, Boeing, Airbus and Airbus Helicopters. It also provides a wide range of services to the US armed forces.

Meggitt chief executive Tony Wood, said: “The opening of our expanded ‘state of the art’ Miami facility is another important milestone in our broader investment programme around the world, as we continue to invest for growth. It will be a key US hub for MRO.”
