Trio of Trumpf machines installed

Trio of Trumpf machines installedBirmingham Prototypes Ltd (BPL), a leading specialist in the design and manufacture of one-off and low-volume parts, has invested in three high-specification Trumpf machines, one of which is a ‘state of the art’ five-axis TruLaser Cell 7020 Fiber.

The company provides a ‘one-stop shop’ service, taking parts from CAD through to final inspected products; it has
customers in many industry sectors, including automotive and aerospace.

Matt Adams, BPL’s director of operations, said: “We have enjoyed 15 years of growth at Birmingham Prototypes and now have 20 employees. Moving in 2019 to our new building with 24/7 operating capacity is a reflection of our progress.”

BPL (www.birminghamprototypes.co.uk) invested in its first five-axis Trumpf TruLaser Cell 7040 Fiber around four years ago.

Pleased with its quality and robust performance, the company returned to Luton-based Trumpf Ltd (www.trumpf.com) for a second 3-D laser cutter, this time a TruLaser Cell 7020 Fiber.

As part of the same order, this machine was joined by a TruLaser 3030 Fiber flat-bed laser cutter and a TruBend 3100 press brake.

Mr Adams said: “As specialists in sheet metalwork and 3-D rapid prototyping, the scale of our operations varies greatly, from one-off bespoke parts through large projects containing multiple components to scheduled low-volume production parts.

"The versatility of our five-axis lasers is of great benefit to a business like ours, where we can never be sure what will come through the door tomorrow.

“Control over manufacturing is a major contributing factor when it comes to producing quality parts.

“The addition of the new Trumpf machines means that we no longer need to out-source certain aspects of our production; we can control everything in-house.

“This not only improves quality and eliminates our reliance on supply-chain partners but also ensures a faster turnround for our customers.”
