Makers Meet draws the crowds

Makers Meet draws the crowdsOver 600 young people were recently given a glimpse into the future of technology at the first-ever Makers Meet, a free ‘tech’ festival in Birmingham organised by Make UK, the manufac-turers’ organisation, Make UK.

This event took place during Birmingham Tech Week last month and attracted aspiring engineers, apprentices and students; they were able to hear from industry experts and see the latest technologies in action in four areas — the Tech Zone, the Demonstration Zone, the Makers Meetup and the Great Ideas Garden.

Andrea Bull, Make UK’s head of next-generation marketing, said: “Makers Meet aims to inspire the next generation of talent and show them that the future of engineering and manufacturing is an exciting one, which they can be part of.

“We are already looking to build on the success of this first festival, with plans for more than one event in 2020.”

The Make UK Technology Hub (in Aston) is a development and training centre for apprentices and professionals. Applications are being taken for apprenticeship courses beginning in January 2020.
