New twin-spindle twin-turret turning centres

New twin-spindle twin-turret turning centresLeamington Spa-based Mills CNC Ltd (www .millscnc.co.uk) — the exclusive distributor of Doosan machine tools in the UK and Ireland — has introduced a new range of multi-tasking twin-spindle twin-turret turning centres with Y-axis capability on their upper and lower turrets.

The TT1300SYY (42/51mm bar diameter capacity) and larger TT2100SYY (65/81mm bar diameter capacity) machines both made their UK debuts at Mills CNC’s October Open House.

They can be used in a number of ways: the twin-turret capability allows simultaneous OD and ID cutting on a part located in the machine’s main spindle; simultaneous milling and turning of components in the machine’s main spindle and sub-spindle allows parts to be completed in one cycle; and operations can be combined by machining one side of a part in the main spindle before it is transferred to the sub-spindle for finishing.

In addition to having Y-axis capability on their upper and lower turrets, the new machines feature: LM roller-type guides on the machine axes; up to 40m/min rapid rates to minimise non-cutting times; high-power high-torque main spindles (11kW/6,000rev/min/93Nm for the TT1300SYY and 15kW/6,000rev/min /116Nm for the TT2100SYY); 11kW/6,000rev/ min sub-spindles on both models; and 3.7kW/ 6,000rev/ min driven-tooling capability for the upper turret on both models.

In addition, both machine models feature the Doosan Easy Operation Package for fast and error-free programming, plus a Doosan ‘best-in-class’ grease lubrication system that reduces maintenance costs and is more environment-friendly than traditional oil-based lubrication systems.

Mills CNC’s technical director, Tony Dale, said: “The new TT machines certainly pack a punch, and they can operate like self-contained automated manufacturing cells, offering flexibility, speed and performance.”
