Sweden-based Modig, a manufacturer of horizontal and vertical machining centres for the high-speed machining of aerospace components, has recently moved into a new 5,000m
2 purpose-built factory in Kalmar.
This will enable the company to increase the production of its very successful HHV ‘one-hit’ multi-axis machining centres and the larger RigiMill range.
The full Modig range is available in the UK from Leicestershire-based M-Tech (UK) Ltd (
www.aeromachinery.com).
The RigiMill, designed after consultation with an OEM aircraft builder in the USA, has received world-wide acclaim.
One US Tier Two aerospace sub-contractor has recently taken delivery of its 14th machine, and a 24m RigiMill with gantry auto-loading is currently being installed in the UK for a Tier Two sub-contractor.
In 2017, a RigiMill MG machined a billet of aerospace-specification aluminium at 16.4 litres/min — a world record rate.
Meanwhile, work has already started on a second 5,000m2 factory in Kalmar, which will have a special mezzanine floor to accommodate a production line for the new generation P51 HS horizontal HS machine with trunnion NC table.
