Bootle blade maker cuts a deal on new facility

Bootle blade maker cuts a deal on new facility Bootle-based precision blade manufacturer Hardy UK has agreed a long-term lease with developer Chancerygate on a new 22,066ft2 facility at Mersey Reach logistics park in Aintree.

Founded in 1854, Hardy UK (www.hardy.uk.com) designs and makes precision blades for the global leather industry, with 95% of its output being exported.

In 2015, the company was acquired by Sheffield-based knife manufacturer Arkote.

Currently located on Fernhill Road in Bootle, it is expected to relocate to Mersey Reach by August. The new facility will increase its production capacity and create employment opportunities in both the production and administration
departments.

Peter Oxspring, Hardy UK’s managing director, said: “During the 2015 takeover the board identified that moving to new premises would be essential in order to sustain and then grow Hardy UK as the largest manufacturer of blades for the leather industry.

"Having considered many options within the area and further afield, Chancerygate made a compelling offer, and we were ultimately convinced that Mersey Reach would be the right place to call home.”

Mike Walker, Chancerygate’s development director, said: “This is North Liverpool’s first new multi-unit logistics park to be built for years.

“We are pleased to work closely with Sefton Council and other stakeholders to bring more business, jobs and other opportunities to the area.”
