Coventry-based Fanuc UK Ltd (
www.fanuc.eu/uk/en) is now offering a hollow-arm version of its R-2000 series robots.
Capable of integrating cables into its hollow structure, the R-2000iD has been designed for applications that require process cables, such as spot welding or material handling.
This integration not only reduces maintenance costs by minimising the physical strain on the cables but also prevents interference with system equipment; and although the cables are entirely incorporated into the hollow arm and wrist, a number of strategic openings ensure easy access, so that cables can be replaced or maintained.
Andy Armstrong, sales and marketing manager at Fanuc UK, said: “Putting the cables inside the robot minimises the chance of wear and tear from external forces.
“It also makes off-line simulations far easier and more precise, as testing the way each cable will behave in any given situation is extremely challenging.
"As the robot rotates its six axes, cables can bend in all sorts of unexpected ways. Having them stored away inside the arm, without the risk of snagging or tearing, vastly increases the reliability of the simulation model.”
The R-2000iD comes in two models: the R-2000iD/165FH, which has a maximum load capacity of 165kg; and the R-2000iD/210FH, with a maximum load capacity of 210kg.
Both have a reach of 2,605mm; and while they have similar dimensions to their predecessors, the overall footprint is significantly smaller (just 678 x 536mm).
Mr Armstrong added: “Floor space in a production facility is often at a premium. Positioning the cables inside the R-2000iD contributes to a more-succinct ergonomic robot that can operate in tight workspaces without sacrificing on payload or reach.”
