WEG (www.weg.net, a global manufacturer of electrical and mechanical equipment, has agreed a technology transfer agreement with Leistung Equipamentos Ltda, a manufacturer of medical equipment, to produce ventilators that will be used in the fight against COVID-19.

The contract grants WEG's Brazilian factories in Jaraguá do Sula a licence to manufacture the ventilator based on the mechanical ventilation device “Luft-3” produced by Leistung.

The plan is to immediately purchase all required components in order to produce 500 ventilators.

Once the production line is installed by WEG, the company will have an estimated capacity to produce 50 ventilators per day with delivery expected to begin in the second half of May.

Manfred Peter Johann, managing director of WEG Automation, said: “We are now trying to obtain the electronic and pneumatic components, many of which are imported and are currently in short supply in the market.”
