Siemens Energy launches ‘green’ hydrogen projectSiemens Energy and Beijing Green Hydrogen Technology Development Co Ltd (a subsidiary of China Power International Development Ltd) have signed an agreement relating to providing a hydrogen production system for a hydrogen fuelling station.

Located in Yanqing District, Beijing, one of the three main competition areas for a major sporting event in 2022, the green hydrogen production solution provided by Siemens Energy will help guarantee the hydrogen supply for the public transportation system during and after the event.

The ‘megawatt green hydrogen production solution’ is the first of its kind to be built by Siemens Energy in China, and it is expected to be delivered in May 2021.

In September 2019, Siemens signed a Memorandum of Understanding on co-operation in green hydrogen development and ‘comprehensive utilisation’ with State Power Investment Corporation Ltd (SPIC), which is the ultimate controlling shareholder of China Power.

The hydrogen production project is the result of a close partnership between the two companies, which say they plan to further expand their co-operation on green hydrogen projects.

Electrolysers use electricity to split water into its components oxygen and hydrogen. The hydrogen produced in this way is only called green if the electricity used comes exclusively from a renewable source such as wind farms, solar plants, hydro or geothermal power plants.
