Now in its eighth year, the ‘Engineering Newcomer’ competition offers budding engineers the opportunity to win a ‘prestigious award’, showcase their designs, and take home a cash prize.
Norelem, the global standard components specialist and creator of this competition, has confirmed that this year’s judges will be looking for a winning combination of: design innovation; technological benefit and market opportunities; use of parts and cost considerations; function and handling; and technological implementation.
Previous winning designs include: the Ina’lite, an innovative light and durable thermostatic generator that turns heat into clean electricity; an innovative filling device for hobby brewers and micro-brewers; and the design and prototype production of a compact, electric drive unit that offers increased safety for rollators.
Marcus Schneck, Norelem’s CEO, said: “Promoting young talent and facilitating training and engineering knowledge is an integral part of our company philosophy. The competition is now in its eighth year and has been growing year on year, with outstanding and inspirational entries coming from students around the globe.
“With so much focus on the skills gap, we want to invest in the future of our industry by encouraging young talent to showcase their creations and show the world how exciting engineering can be.”
The competition is open to students of technical disciplines from a university or technical college. Entries, including photos, videos, or reports, should be submitted by 31 July 2021. Winners and the award ceremony will take place at Motek the international trade fair for automation in production and assembly, being held in Stuttgart in October.
