In November last year, the European Commission published the new draft standard ‘Euro 7’. This standard, which will apply to passenger cars and vans from 1 July 2025 and to commercial vehicles and buses from 1 July 2027, limits values for particulate matter particle emissions from braking systems.

To meet the automotive industry’s requirements for coated brake discs, HPL Technologies and EMAG are jointly developing a hard-coating system. This entails integrating HPL Technologies’ Wecodur assemblies for laser cladding into an EMAG machine platform.

This joint development will enable automotive manufacturers and brake disc producers to achieve the benefits of rapid and sustainable scaling of production technology. At the same time, the integration of Wecodur technology packages gives the automotive industry access to HPL Technologies’ proven coating technologies and ‘tribosystems’.

As a result of this cooperation, EMAG is expanding its machine range as a turnkey supplier for the complete process chain of brake disc production. This encompasses from soft machining and laser coating to the final grinding process.
