Walter portfolio expands new grooving systems Walter is expanding its Groov·tec GD portfolio with three new grooving innovations to broaden the range of options for manufacturers. The three new arrivals offer significant opportunities for manufacturers to accelerate productivity and performance with the G5111-P axial grooving system, the new Groov·tec GD boring bar range G5221, and the highly versatile Groov·tec GD grooving system range G55xx.

The G5111-P axial grooving system has been introduced in three cutting depths of T21, T25 and T33mm, with four insert widths ranging from 3 to 6mm. It enables particularly stable machining conditions and high process reliability, as the precise internal coolant on the free and plain surfaces optimally supports chip evacuation in axial contours.

Also new to the market is the impressive new Groov·tec GD boring bar range G5221. This ensures high stability for large diameters starting at Dmin 44mm with insert widths from 3 to 5mm, and a cantilever length of up to 3xD. This makes the G5221 ideal for internal grooving starting from the minimum diameter through to grooving depths up to Tmax 12mm.

The reinforced tool body with an optimised design minimises vibration. Furthermore, the enlarged internal cooling bore ensures effective flushing of the work area to optimise swarf control, prevent swarf re-cutting and improve tool life.

Expanding its portfolio of universal solutions, Walter now introduces the Groov·tec GD grooving system range G55xx. With insert widths ranging from 2.5 to 6mm, this series enables radial grooving and groove turning up to a depth of 8mm. It is also suitable for axial and 45° applications.

Thanks to the tool geometry’s reduced base, all GD cutting inserts can be used in the toolholder. This increases flexibility, reduces set-up times, and boosts cost-effectiveness across all turning centres, from single-piece to series production.

Together, the three systems share the fundamental advantages of Walter’s renowned Groov·tec GD technology. This groundbreaking line incorporates a dual-tooth profile that remains unique in the market. This guarantees maximum stability by reliably preventing the cutting insert from being pushed out of the toolholder laterally. In combination with the wear-resistant Walter Tiger·tec Gold grades, Groov·tec GD enables maximum cutting parameters, tool life, and process reliability.
