Luton-based Ultra Precision Engineering has invested in four new Doosan machines supplied by Mills CNC (www.millscnc.co.uk). Installed last April, the two Puma 260 lathes and two DNM milling machines are being used to make complex components for the aerospace, defence, medical, electronics and leisure sectors — and one of them (a Puma 2600Y with bar feeder)
is also being sued to make high-specification fishing-tackle equipment.
Operations director Steve Wickens says: “We operate 24/7, working to stringent quality requirements and delivery time-scales. As a
consequence, we expect a lot from our machine tools; from experience, we believe that Doosan machines represent great value and are hard to beat.”
UPE has invested in 10 Doosan machines since it was first established in 2001, and the latest arrivals have provided much-needed additional machining capacity and capabilities. The Puma 2600Y (supplied with a bar feeder) has ±51mm of Y-axis travel and driven tooling for greater flexibility and productivity, while one of the DNM machines was supplied with a 4th-axis unit.
