Tooling for trouble-free groove-milling

Tooling for trouble-free groove-millingOne of the main challenges in groove milling is chip evacuation; if ineffective, it can harm production efficiency, reduce component quality and even cause tool breakage — especially when machining narrow and deep grooves.

Designed for groove-milling and parting-off operations, CoroMill QD from Sandvik Coromant (www.sandvik.coromant.com) features optimised geometries and an internal coolant supply to ensure that the chips are deformed by the insert geometry to be narrower than the groove and are flushed out by the coolant.

Combined with long and predictable tool life, this makes CoroMill QD a reliable solution for secure and trouble-free production processes.

Complementing these cutters is a range of new adapters that allow CoroMill QD tools to be used on a wide range of machines, including small- to medium-size machining centres, large machining centres and multi-task machines.

Moreover, the company’s Silent Tool adapters can be used for long-overhang machining.

The internal coolant supply is based on four-channel delivery from the adapters to the cutter.
