Based in Redditch and employing some 60 people, Accurate Cutting Services Ltd (
www.accurate-cutting.co.uk) is a leading provider of sawing solutions.
The company also offers sub-contract cutting for materials up to 2,000mm in diameter, 6,000mm long, 1,000mm thick and weighing up to 25 tonnes; metals can be supplied as castings, fabrications or mill stock.
Furthermore, since acquiring Birkett Cutmaster, Accurate is also the distributor for Amada bandsaws and circular sawing machinery, as well as bandsaw blades. The Amada products complement Accurate’s established supply of Pedrazzoli saws, high-speed steel blades and disposable carbide blades from Julia, plus sawing solutions from both Soitaab and Friggi.
The cutting services that the company provides include rough profiling and sectioning, for which it uses specialist heavy-duty vertical bandsaws.
Accurate’s chairman, Mark Fleeming, says: “This gives customers substantial savings, as the removal of excess material prior to machining reduces both machining time and tooling costs. Such a service is particularly useful with specialist materials like titanium, which are only available in small quantities and at a high cost. We will cut these materials into sizes that can reduce wastage in subsequent machining operations. We can also take part-machined items and section them to produce multiple components from one casting, forging or turned part. Known as segmenting, this procedure can significantly simplify the manufacturing process. It can also cut down on the cost of refurbishing heat-exchanger units by removing end plates from tube stacks to be re-tubed.
“The company provides a complete service for all aspects of sawing, including saw blades manufactured to size, sharpening services, machine servicing, machine repairs and spare parts; and in addition to standard products from Amada, Pedrazzoli, Soitaab and Friggi, we can supply automated systems and bespoke equipment.
“Having been around for some 45 years, we have been able to establish some very strong relationships with both our customers and our suppliers. In our industry, it is difficult to innovate, because the act of sawing itself
is very simple and technology has now developed to the point where there isn’t much room for improvement.
“Therefore, in order to differentiate ourselves from our competition, we have to continue to provide a high-quality service and a wide range of options for our customers, many of whom come from the offshore, aerospace and power generation industries; and when it comes to machine and blade sales, as well as cutting fluids, a major strength is the hands-on experience gained from our own sawing services.”
A recent addition to the Amada range of bandsaws is the HFA 430. This high-performance saw features: a particularly rigid frame with double guides; a CNC system designed for ease of use and rapid set-up (there are three cutting modes for maximum efficiency — Eco-mode, Standard-mode and Power-mode); and double rollers that reduce vibration, resulting in faster and quieter cutting, as well as improved blade life.
Moreover, the saw blade frame has been designed to minimise twist in the blade, leading to longer blade life; and material yield is optimised by allowing material remnants as small as 35mm to be left. The machine accommodates diameters up to a maximum of 430mm and rectangles with a maximum dimension of 430mm. The minimum cut length is 10mm, and a 5.5kW motor gives a blade speed range of 15-120m/min.
