New sliding-head machine

New sliding-head machineThe replacement for the Deco 10 from Tornos UK Ltd, Coalville (www.tornos.com), the new Evo Deco 10 for producing components up to 10mm in diameter is available in two types: the Evo Deco 10/10 is a 10-axis machine with four independent tool systems (a total of 27 tools, of which 21 can be rotating), while the 10/8 is a more cost-effective version with eight linear axes and three independent tool systems.

Both machines can operate with or without a guide bush (the latter allowing the use of standard bar material while reducing bar remnant length), and both have a length capacity of 100mm.

The main spindle on these machines is rated at 6.5/10.1kW and has a maximum speed of 14,000rev/min; the sub-spindle has the same speed range and is rated at 5kW. The driven tools are powered by a 1.1kW motor that gives a speed range of 100-12,000rev/min and 4.8Nm of constant torque.

Furthermore, the standard bearing in the driven-tool units has been replaced with a needle roller bearing assembly; this maximises radial rigidity and allows demanding milling and drilling operations to be undertaken.

Programming is undertaken using the Tornos TB-Deco system or via the industry-standard ISO programming language, which is particularly useful when creating complex interfaces between the machine and external peripherals such as measurement systems.

The machines’ tooling systems are synchronised via Tornos’s Tisis software, which also simplifies programming.
