Improved cycle times at QFS TechnologiesIn the face of rising orders, Birmingham-based QFS Technologies has invested in a Soraluce TA-A25 travelling table-type milling machine.

Supplied by Ward CNC (www.wardcnc.com), the new machine has improved cycle times and given QFS the level of flexibility that it needs to make bespoke components for customers in sectors such as automotive, rail and aerospace.

Accredited to ISO 9001-2008 and ISO 14001-2004, QFS specialises in the manufacture of panels and assemblies plus associated jigs, fixtures and press tooling. The machine has a 2,700 x 1,000mm table that accommodates loads up to 5,700kg, plus axis travels of 2,500 x 1,250 x 1,200mm in X, Y and Z.

CAD/CAM manager Tony Goodwill said: “We process a variety of materials, including tool steels, cast iron and model board, and no two components are the same. The Soraluce has lived up to our expectations in terms of both cycle times and flexibility. Its purchase was justified on its specification, price and the level of on-going support being offered by Ward CNC.”

The Soraluce machine came with a Heidenhain iTNC 530 CNC system. As QFS’s other three machines also feature Heiden-
hain controls, it has allowed the company to maintain commonality of controls, programming and post-processing routines.
