5-axis machining centre offers flexibilityNow available from Nuneaton-based Leader CNC Technologies Ltd (www.leadercnc.co.uk) is the Kitamura Mytrunnion 4G five-axis machining centre.

Designed to combine flexibility with capability, this machine offers an accuracy of ±0.002mm and a repeatability of ±0.001mm — levels of performance that are attributed to hand-scraping of the major sub-assemblies and the use of linear scales on all axes.

The machine’s rotary trunnion table accommodates parts up to 500mm in diameter, 400mm high and weighing up to 200kg. The trunnion’s tilting A axis has a movement of -120 to +30deg, while the C axis offers a full 360deg of rotation. Both axes offer a resolution of 0.001deg, while a high-precision roller-gear cam mechanism for these fourth and fifth axes ensures zero backlash.

The standard BT40 spindle (HSK63 is an option) is rated at 15kW and gets to its maximum speed of 15,000rev/min in just 2.3sec. A 50-tool carousel is standard.

Control is via a Kitamura Arumatik-Mi CNC, which is driven by a high-speed Mitsubishi processor.

A 19in LCD screen includes multiple work-setting displays, maintenance support functions, built-in diagnostics and video guidance. The machine has a 3.7 x 2.2m footprint and an all-up weight of 9,000kg.
