JVM Castings manufactures parts for the automotive sector at its factories in Worcester and Tamworth.
When the company won yet another contract from Jaguar Land Rover, it found that its existing systems did not have sufficient capacity to cope with cleaning and drying the link-shaft brackets in question (
www.jvmcastings.com).
JVM senior engineer Nigel Phillips said: “When dealing with such a prestigious name in the automotive industry, it is important for us to ensure that all of the parts we supply meet the highest-possible standards of cleanliness.”
As JVM already used a cleaning system from Tewkesbury-based MecWash Systems Ltd (
www.mecwash.co.uk), Mr Phillips was happy to follow MecWash’s recommendation and buy a Solo 400 with an 800mm drum. With its rotational washing, mist rinsing and hot-air drying, the Solo removes preservative oils, machining lubricants, metal swarf and chips from machined components — all within a compact footprint.
Moreover, the whole process is fully enclosed, so the system does not produce any steam or unpleasant vapours. Mr Phillips added: “MecWash has again come up with a solution to help us strengthen our long-established relationship with Jaguar Land Rover. This dates back to 1963, when we supplied pulley castings for the Rover P4. Today sees us making complex structural parts, such as the B Pillar for the award-winning Jaguar F Type.”
