Manufacturing Myanmar 2016Last month’s Manufacturing Myanmar 2016 exhibition (manufacturingmyanmar.com) (held 22-24 September in Yangon) attracted more than 3,500 visitors and highlighted a wide variety of tools, hardware and equipment from leading international manufacturers and distributors, including Trumpf, Nikon, OSG, Guhring and many others.

The items that were showcased ranged from basic factory equipment to advanced technology such as portable measuring devices, punching machines and machining centres, and new exhibitors had the chance to connect with potential local agents and distributors.

Tina Wu of the Taiwan Machine Tool Builders’ Association said: “Our exhibitors are pleased with the show, as it continues to allow them to engage with Myanmar’s manufacturing industry.

“Some of our exhibitors — including Jinn Jye Precise Machine Co Ltd and Sang Yuan Machinery Corporation — have sold their machines and equipment. The Taiwan pavilion will return next year.”

Edward Yuen, general manager of Trumpf, said: “Manufacturing Myanmar continues to be an important launchpad for Trumpf to reach out to the industry. This year, our Trumatic 5000R attracted a lot of attention from the private sector as well as govern-ment enterprises of Myanmar.”

U Aung Myint, president of the Myanmar Engineering Society, said: “Manufacturing is one of the main sectors supporting the country’s economic growth. It is an exciting time for the manufacturing sector, as foreign investment and multi-national companies come into the market.

As the manufacturing sector moves up the value chain, it is time for local players to step up and be the agents for progress.

“This can be achieved by companies investing in new technologies and equipment, and by industry professionals arming themselves with technical knowledge and skills to meet industry needs.”
