A ‘model’ demo of CMM technologyThe success of Aberlink’s recently launched Xtreme CNC co-ordinate measuring machine has prompted high levels of demand for demonstrations.

To allow potential users who are unable to visit Aberlink’s regional demonstration facilities to see a machine in action, the Gloucestershire-based company (www.aberlink.co.uk) has manufactured several quarter-size versions that can be carried in sales representatives' cars and demonstrated to potential customers.

Featuring a non-Cartesian structure and using linear motors and mechanical bearings to ensure that accuracy is maintained at fast measurement speeds, the Xtreme does not suffer the cumulative inaccuracies of conventional three-axis Cartesian arrangements.

It uses Aberlink’s own 3-D CNC software, which creates a picture of the measured component on the computer screen. Dimensions between the measured features that mirror those on the component drawing can then be simply picked off as required.
