Latest generation 5-axis machining centre

Latest generation 5-axis machining centre Yamazaki Mazak UK Ltd (www.mazakeu.co.uk) will be displaying its latest-generation five-axis multi-tasking machine — the Variaxis j-500/5X — on stand Q122.

This machining centre combines a compact footprint with the ability to offer simultaneous five-axis machining across multiple surfaces, allowing it to undertake the variety of volumes, small-batch and prototype work commonly tackled by the sub-contracting sector.

The Variaxis j-500/5X features a highly rigid structure, an A-axis rotation of +30 to -120deg, linear roller guides on all linear axes and roller gear cams on both rotary axes. Furthermore, the machine is equipped with SmoothX, the five-axis version of Mazak’s Smooth Technology, which is claimed to be the world’s fastest CNC system. SmoothX includes a 19in touch-screen control panel.

Mazak is a regular exhibitor at Southern Manufacturing, and the Variaxis j-500/5X is the latest in a long line of cutting-edge machine tool technology exhibited by the manufacturer at this show.

Alan Mucklow, managing director of the UK and Ireland sales division of Yamazaki Mazak, says: “The Variaxis j-500/5X sets new standards for multi-tasking machines and is designed to deliver high-speed high-accuracy machining continuously, while ensuring maximum ease of operation for the machinist.

The machine will be in live-cutting action for the duration of the show, and we look forward to demonstrating its capabilities to those sub-contractors looking to make a step-change in their machining operations.”
