Yorkshire-based Sherburn Metalwork Ltd (
www.sherburn-metalwork.com) — a WEC Group company — has invested in a new ‘state of the art’ shot-blasting facility to cope with its on-going expansion and complement its wet painting facility.
The £200,000 Wheelabrator air-blast room can shot-blast components up to 15m long x 4.7m wide x 4m high.
Sherburn Metalwork predominantly provides fabrication, sheet metalwork and robotic welding services to the automotive industry.
This ranges from bus frames and chassis to parts for trailer and body manufacturers, including box vans and refrigerated trucks.
Bringing the shot-blasting process in-house will significantly improve lead times. It will also enable the company to pursue new business opportunities in a range of other industries.
Bryan Bentley, Sherburn Metalwork’s general manager, said: “The new facility means we can now blast parts in-house before beginning the wet-painting or powder-coating process.
“Our ‘one-stop shop’ manufacturing service is something many companies don’t offer, so this new investment will improve turn-round times for customers.”
