Corner radii added to long- reach end mills

Corner radii added to long- reach end millsThe Cyber 3051 series of long-reach end mills from Tamworth-based Industrial Tooling Corporation Ltd (www.itc-ltd.co.uk) has been extended with the addition of various corner radii for each diameter variant.

These three-flute centre-cutting end mills are designed for machining cavities, deep slots and deep shoulders in aluminium workpieces.

Now, ITC has added to the Cyber 3051 series by offering a selection of corner radii alongside the existing tools with wiper flats. Like the square-end 3051 cutters, the extended line is available in diameters of 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 16 and 20mm.

The 3mm- to 5mm-diameter tools are offered with corner radii from 0.25 to 1mm in 0.25mm increments, while diameters from 6mm and above offer corner radii of 1.25, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 4 and 5mm, depending on the chosen tool diameter.

By adding a variety of corner radii, ITC says it is making the 3051 series suitable for multi-axis machining, as well as the profile milling of intricate features that are beyond the reach of standard-length end-milling tools.

Furthermore, by introducing corner radii, performance and tool life are extended, as the potential for edge chipping is reduced. The overall lengths of the expanded-radius range extend from 75 to 150mm, with a length of cut from
15 to 80mm, depending upon diameter.

The correlation between overall length and cut length is proportionate in order to maximise rigidity and stability, while minimising vibration and chatter, during heavy-duty full-depth machining applications.
