VTL, which specialises in the design, development, prototyping and manufacture of high-specification precision components, has installed a robotic production line at its facility in Huddersfield, with the assistance of the Government-run Business Growth Fund.

The line will make an aluminium cam carrier for four-cylinder petrol engines to be used in a new range of Jaguar Land Rover vehicles.

The carriers will be delivered to JLR through a multi-year contract with the Japanese-owned company Ryobi UK.

The production line, which was designed in-house by VTL’s project and engineering team, comprises a number of purpose-built machines and 12 robots. It has the capacity to make nearly 10,000 parts a week.

Following the installation of the new production line, Ryobi UK and JLR awarded the VTL site in Huddersfield substantial new contracts for two additional complex component parts. VTL also has facilities in Europe, the USA, India and Japan.
