Servosteel buys Amada laser cutterDudley-based Servosteel, the largest independent steel processor in the UK, has bought a new Amada LCG 3014 CO2 flat-bed laser, to expand the service offered to its customers.

The company’s 200,000ft2 premises house a range of processing facilities, including three slitting lines, two decoiling lines, a coil pickling line, and the UK’s only coil recovery line — plus material storage and steel supply.

Director Richard Burton says the Amada laser has created new business opportunities for Servosteel: “Our ideal customer will typically have a requirement for steel processing, including pickling, coil recovery, decoiling
and laser. We can now manage the job from start to finish in one location, saving them money and minimising lead times.”

The Amada laser can cut component parts or shapes from sheet material — and engrave a design or text onto surfaces. A 2-D CAD drawing is either created by Servosteel to the customer’s specification or supplied by the customer.

This data is then used to generate a set of cutting instructions that are passed to the laser.

Servosteel also has a ‘state of the art’ on-line stock-management system that allows customers to log into their account, monitor their stock and view all their transactions with Servosteel; they can also obtain copies of coil details, orders being processed, material inspection reports, despatch documents, invoices and statements.
