Wood Group wins North Sea oil field dealAberdeen-based offshore engineering firm Wood Group (www.woodgroup.com) has been awarded a three-year contract by Danish firm Maersk to deliver mechanical and management services for the hook-up and commissioning of the Culzean gas condensate field in the UK central North Sea.

At its peak, this contract will create about 200 new jobs to support the three-platform development, which is expected to begin production in 2019.

Dave Stewart, CEO of Wood Group’s Asset Life Cycle Solutions business in the Eastern region, said: “Maersk’s decision to award us this new contract reflects their confidence in our ability to deliver our broad technical solutions safely, efficiently and effectively. We will bring our global experience and expertise in the execution of hooks-ups to the project.”

Development work on the massive Culzean gas discovery started in April of last year. The £3 billion development, led by Maersk with partners JX Nippon and BP (Britoil), secured UK Government approval in 2015 and has estimated reserves of 250 billion barrels of oil.

This latest contract for Wood Group follows hot on the heels of a multi-million-pound contract from Husky Energy for offshore engineering works in Canada.
