Dyson to enter Indian market

Dyson to enter Indian marketWriting in The Hindu Business Line, Chitra Narayanan reports that billionaire inventor James Dyson’s (www.dyson.co.uk) plans to take his technology to India — announced last November when he visited the country as part of a delegation led by UK Prime Minister Theresa May — have been firmed up, and a project team has been established.

This team is led by Vineet Taneja, whose previous positions include Micromax CEO and ex-country Head of Mobile and Digital Imaging for Samsung Electronics.

Mr Dyson says his company is gearing up for a year-end launch, and it will invest £150 million in India over the next five years — a big chunk of which will go into setting up 20 stores across all major cities.

“India is a completely new market for us. We have no history in the country. We need to find new ways of selling in India, and we will also sell through the Internet, where we can talk directly to consumers.”

It is reported that Dyson spends £7 million on R&D every week at its Malmesbury campus in Wiltshire, and a lot of that goes into the on-going development of its compact high-speed digital motors, which are the heart of all its products. Some 200 of the company’s 3,500 engineering and scientific staff just work on the motors.
