Edinburgh has the most active tech innovation community outside London, according to a new index published by the Open Date Institute showing the most active innovation communities in the UK by industry sector.

The study also shows Glasgow in fourth place out of the 36 UK cities included — the top four are London, Edinburgh, Manchester and Glasgow. Aberdeen is in 20th place, and Dundee is in 22nd place.

Looking at specific tech sectors, Edinburgh appears to have some of the most active innovation communities outside London.

It is in second place for the ‘Internet of things’, data innovation, artificial intelligence innovation and health innovation. It is in third place for creative innovation and in fifth place for Virtual Reality innovation.
