Bedfordshire-based Millbrook Group (
www.millbrook.co.uk), a leading provider of vehicle test and validation services, has further expanded its powertrain-testing capabilities with the creation of a new test cell for high-performance engines.
This features a high-speed dynamometer that can test to 523kW and 9,000rev/ min.
The new test cell — Millbrook’s 17th — has been designed specifically to test premium and performance engines for light-duty vehicles that are required to meet a wide range of customer demands.
It has a modular design to allow for future expansion, and it has been installed in a stand-alone building. It can also be used for other programmes, including hybrid vehicles and future engine technologies, and it can be expanded with supplementary emissions test equipment.
Phil Stones, chief engineer (powertrain), said: “The flexible nature of the cell means we can incorporate new equipment and update the test procedures to suit existing and upcoming customer requirements.
“It has been designed with high-performance car engines in mind, as the technology continues to develop in order to meet tightening emissions regulations and fuel economy targets.”
The construction of the new engine test cell continues a period of sustained investment by Millbrook Group.
Investment has enhanced the group’s capabilities in emissions, safety, vehicle and tyre testing; it includes the acquisition of an existing test facility in Leyland in July.
