Peel Energy (www.peelenergy.co.uk) has been given ‘the green light’ to build a 57.8MW wind farm on the island of Yell in Shetland.

Scottish ministers approved the 17-turbine Beaw Field project (near the Burn of Hamnavoe) under Section 36 powers.

The project, which will likely be dependent on the construction of an interconnector to the Scottish mainland, could compete for a proposed islands wind Contracts for Difference deal promised by the UK Government.
