Tamworth-based Industrial Tooling Corporation Ltd (
www.itc-ltd.co.uk) has expanded its square-end 5021 series of five-flute end mills to incorporate a range of corner radii for each diameter.
This has been prompted by increasing demand for cutters capable of performing trochoidal-milling strategies.
The 3, 4 and 5mm-diameter tools now offer 0.25 and 0.5mm corner radii, while the 6mm tool adds 0.75 and 1mm radii. For the 8, 10, 12, 16 and 20mm tools, the radii are 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3 and 4mm respectively.
The extended 5021 series is supplied in overall lengths from 58 to 150mm, and in flute lengths from 9 to 40mm.
These latest 5021-series cutters also have a harmonic flute geometry for improved chip evacuation and extended tool life, a sub-micron carbide substrate and a wear-resistant coating. These features help to reduce torque and load on the machine, thanks to a smooth cutting action.
As well as steel, 5021 cutters can also be used for machining ‘exotic’ materials, as the harmonic flute geometry and centre-cutting action guarantee consistent chip thickness and the delivery of constant torque through the spindle.
