The four-machine Lagun TM range from Erith-based RK International Machine Tools Ltd (
www.rk-int.com) has X-axis travel up to 5,000mm combined with Y-, Z-, and V-axis travels up to 1,300, 2,000 and 1,500mm respectively.
With travels of this size, the machines are built to handle large workpieces weighing up to 10,000kg; and with the V axis (which holds the digital spindle) fully retracted, it is possible to fit components up to 2,500mm in diameter on the machine’s 400rev/min rotary table.
For milling, the TM machines can be specified with a choice of six milling heads. Three of these are universal Hure-type heads with spindle speeds ranging from 3,000 to 6,000rev/min.
An orthogonal-style head can also be specified, which gives index increments of 1deg in both planes of movement, with positioning controlled by two encoders and Hirth couplings.
Alternatively, a choice of two horizontal heads of differing lengths can be specified.
Using one of the Hure or orthogonal heads, TM-series machines are capable of machining five sides of a component; tooling is supplied from a 40- or 60-position chain-type ATC.
