Tool-holding innovations

Tool-holding innovations There will be UK debuts for a number of products from Corsham-based Gewefa (UK) Ltd (www.gewefa.co.uk) and its partners (Hall 17 Stand 362).

For instance, the Gewefa M96 ER is a tool-holding system that fixes on the collet location of ER driven-head spindles. As a hydraulic chuck, the system offers high levels of all-round grip on the cutter, with anti-vibration damping for improved surface finish.

Features include consistent spindle run out and automatic centring of the inner and outer taper (to virtually zero). The M96 is available in two shank options of ER25 and ER32, accommodating cutter diameters from 6 to 20mm.

The new Rainbow angle heads from Gewefa principal Pibomulti are assembled on a modular concept that provides cost savings up to 30% over standard fixed-head units, says Gewefa. Available in fixed 90deg, adjustable and slim-line designs with R65 and R80 indexing, there are eight different types of modular shanks available, including DIN, BT, HSK and Capto.

Another Gewefa partner, EWS — a manufacturer of driven and static tool-holders for CNC lathes — has upgraded its quick-change Varia modular system with Varia-VX; this offers increased performance for turning and milling processes.

Varia-VX achieves maximum concentricity through a three-point locking system and triangular drive spigot, which has a positive effect regarding high spindle torque (up to 200Nm).

Building on the Power Check pull-force gauge, OTT-Jakob now offers a Mark III version of the unit; this provides readings remotely via a handset, enabling the automated checking of spindle pull-back force.

Featured from clamping technology specialist Simon Nann will be the modular quick-change MZ manual clamping system, which converts the base unit from a conventional clamping head to a dead-length collet system, draw-back collet or expanding mandrels.

MZ offers versatility, being suited to double-sided machining or the machining of long parts (with tailstock support). A simple key movement through 180deg converts the base unit from clamped to unclamped.

Finally heat-shrink clamping specialist Rineck will be featuring an upgraded induction heating device for the clamping and unclamping of cutters in heat-shrink tool-holders.

The vertical ‘elevator’ design allows a compact bench-top installation, while automatic tool cooling also features. Both carbide tools (3-32mm in diameter) and HSS (6-32mm) can be shrunk in the 10kW machine, with all parameters, shrink times and performance data stored in an internal database.
