CSI Aluminium invests in Tekna machining centre

CSI Aluminium invests in Tekna machining centre Hull-based CSI Aluminium, a specialist glazing and cladding fabricator, has invested in a Tekna TKE 944-7 four-axis heavy duty machining centre (with a 7m bed) supplied by Emmegi (UK) (www.emmegi.com).

It has been a customer of Emmegi for over 20 years and already has a Phantomatic machining centre and Classic Star and Twin Ferro saws.

In recent years, Emmegi has expanded its range by acquiring both the Tekna and Keraglass machinery businesses, and it can now advise customers on the best option for most drilling, machining or threading requirements.

The Tekna TKE 944 machine was selected by CSI, because it has a large machining capacity and can link easily to the other Emmegi machines in the factory.

It has a mobile gantry and an 8kW high-torque spindle suitable for machining the large sections of aluminium that CSI is using.

The spindle moves along the A axis, allowing machining through a full 180deg around each section. A 12-position tool magazine mounted on the gantry gives customers maximum flexibility and reduces tool-change times to optimise the productivity of the machine.

CSI has developed a ‘unitised’ curtain walling system for construction sites with limited access, comprised of 7m sections of Aluprof profile that can be positioned by a tower crane.

Production manager Steve Bird said: “The Tekna TKE 944-7 is already helping us to deliver on a new £3.5 million contract for our curtain walling system in central Manchester.

“As well as the purchasing advice we got from Emmegi, we’re also benefitting from really good after-sales service, and the payback for us looks very positive.”

All of the Emmegi machines at CSI are compatible with the LogiKal software that the company uses for its processing and machine links. The Tekna 944 machining centre and a selection of Emmegi saws are on display this week on the Emmegi stand at MACH (Hall 7, Stand 350).
