Heathrow delegation visits Yorkshire for hubsA delegation from Heathrow Airport recently visited British Steel in Scunthorpe and Aero Centre Yorkshire (Doncaster Sheffield Airport) ahead of an expected Parliamentary vote on the expansion of Heathrow Airport.

Both locations are in the running to be off-site construction ‘hubs’ for the planned expansion, which could deliver 11,200 new jobs and £12 billion worth of wider economic benefits for the area.

Yorkshire and the Humber region is home to 11 (out of 65) long-listed sites. The final four Logistics Hubs chosen will help to ensure that businesses around the UK form part of the supply chain for the expansion project.

Lord Deighton, chairman of Heathrow Airport, said: “Heathrow expansion is a national infrastructure project that will benefit the whole country.

“Logistics Hubs are instrumental in our aim to ensure that expansion spreads the huge potential of tens of billions of pounds in economic benefits around the UK, helping to transform the construction industry and building a lasting skills legacy for future generations in various locations around the country.”

Steve Gill, Doncaster Sheffield Airport CEO, said: “We were delighted to welcome the team from Heathrow to Aero Centre Yorkshire to showcase how our site offers a prime location for a Heathrow Logistics Hub.

“A hub would fits seamlessly with the airport’s 20-year ‘master plan’ for a 3 million ft2 logistics, construction and manufacturing cluster to be developed at the airport.”
