Double-column machining centre at MACH

Double-column machining centre at MACH Rugby-based TDT Machine Tools Ltd (ww.tdt-machinetools.co.uk) was showing a couple of Kafo machining centres — a BMC-2015 double-column machine and a KA-40 vertical.

The Kafo BMC-2015, which is a fixed-column moving-table bridge-type machining centre that uses linear guideways for the three principal axes (or boxway guides in the Z axis, if preferred), can be equipped with various types of milling-head attachments — including 90deg, universal and multi-directional types.

To enhance rigidity and minimise thermal displacement, the machine features a very short spindle centre-line distance, while reducing the length of the gearbox drive shaft helps to reduce vibration.

The BMC-2015 at the show featured a work envelope of 2,100 x 1,500 x 800mm (other capacities are available).

The Kafo KA-40 VMC features an ‘optimised C-type structure’ for extra rigidity (the three main axes are supported by linear guideways) and rapid-traverse rates of 36m/min.

Available in four different models, the KA-40 at the show had a work envelope of 1,050 x 520 x 635mm and accommodated parts weighing up to 500kg.
