Acorn Stairlifts ‘elevated’ by improved resultsWest Yorkshire-based Acorn Stairlifts, which is celebrating its 25th year in business, has topped the £200 million turnover mark for the first time.

For the year to 30 September 2017, its turnover reached £211.8 million, which is a year-on-year increase of 19.5%.

Although Acorn manufactures all its stairlifts in the UK, with two factories in West Yorkshire and another in Scotland, most of its output is sold overseas, with non-UK sales accounting for 70.9% of its revenue in 2016-17, up from 67.7% the previous year (www.acornstairlifts.co.uk).

The company makes more than 70,000 stairlifts a year and exports them to more than 80 countries; it has subsidiaries in North America, Germany, Italy, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

Joanne Richardson, Acorn’s finance director, said: “This latest set of figures is very encouraging, especially breaking through the £200 million barrier in terms of turnover during our 25th anniversary year.

“These results reflect Acorn’s on-going commitment to building growth through investment, both here in the UK and in overseas markets.

“Our performance in North America, where we have worked hard to become the clear market leader for home stairlifts, has been particularly strong during the reporting period, undoubtedly helped by the strength of the dollar.”
