Sweden-based Minesto, a marine energy developer, has completed the initial commissioning sea trials of its Deep Green (DG500) sub-sea kite technology off the coast of Holyhead, in North Wales.
Initial trials of the kite control system, launch and recovery systems, connections and communications have been carried out in various sea states.
David Collier, Minesto’s chief operating officer, said: “This is a very significant step towards our ultimate goal of proving the complete DG500 system.”
The next phase of commissioning tests will include flying full sub-sea trajectories and verifying the power take-off system and electricity generation.
