The Aachen Center for Integrative Lightweight Production (AZL) at RWTH Aachen University is to install a new Engel injection moulding system.
Engel Deutschland GmbH (
www.engelglobal.com) — in co-operation with the Engel Centre for Lightweight Composite Technologies in Austria — will supply the two-component injection moulding system in 2019; it will feature a turning plate and a 17,000kN clamping force.
The new system will enable the use of innovative combinations of already established fibre-reinforced plastics (FRP) processes and the development of new individual processes, with the focus on increasing resource efficiency in lightweight production.
The research will address multi-material systems, continuous processes and process chains, as well as self-optimising processes.
AZL managing director Michael Emonts said: “This new injection moulding system offers us — as specialists for lightweight production technology, and in co-operation with the injection moulding experts of the Institute of Plastics Processing — the opportunity to establish hybrid processes for industrial light-weight applications.
"The system will expand our capabilities at the AZL Technical Center and will be available as an important platform for lightweight production research at RWTH Aachen University.”
