Mechanica Marine sets up at Port of Dover

Mechanica Marine sets up at Port of DoverDover-based Mechanica Utilities Ltd has formed a new company — Mechanica Marine (www.mechanica-marine.com) — and redeveloped a 25,500ft2 marine workshop just outside the Port of Dover to focus on ship care and repair (plus the support of maritime infrastructure and marine-grade fabrication).

Having worked in partnership with several marine engineering companies for many years, the company has stepped in to fill the gap left by the recent sale of ship repairer Burgess Marine and the reduction in its Dover footprint.

Mechanica Marine has already developed relationships with Eurotunnel, Wartsila, Boskalis, Volker Stevin, the Port of Dover,

Seajets (in Greece), and Incat (in Tasmania). James Horsham, the founder and managing director of Mechanica Utilities, said: “Mechanica Marine is a business focused on customer care and response times — the same as our utilities business.

“With excellent workshop facilities and trained marine engineers, we offer welding and fabrication, marine mechanical engineering, motor refurbishments and rewinds, pump refurbishment and repairs, machine shop services and electrical installations and repairs.

“Our aluminium welding and fabrication team has already undertaken major fast-ferry repair jobs in Greece and in Argentina, and we have a workshop full of Eurotunnel equipment.

“We look forward to developing relationships with many of Burgess Marine’s local legacy customers.

“As our marine engineering business grows, we hope to employ more skilled people locally and expand our operations along the South Coast and further afield.”
