CBE helps young people to Get Up To SpeedSheffield-based Cooper Brown Enterprises Ltd (CBE) — the parent company of BG Engineering, NiTEC Ltd and Pentag Gears — has been unveiled as the headline sponsor once again of Get Up To Speed (GUTS) and will play an active role in organising this year’s event.

GUTS is an interactive exhibition that brings together young people and employers from local and regional businesses to explore some of the UK’s best innovations at first hand and find out more about the opportunities in engineering-related roles.

Open to pupils, parents, carers and anyone in the teaching profession, it takes place on 27 March at the MAGNA Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham.

CBE director Marie Cooper said: “GUTS is a really important event in the calendar of young people and engineering firms in this region.

"We are proud to be sponsoring the event again; every year, it enables the region’s manufacturers to showcase just how valuable, diverse and rewarding roles in our industry can be.

"GUTS helps to inspire young people by bringing them face to face with engineers and engineering apprentices to find out what a career in this industry is like and what you need to do to get on that important first rung of the ladder.

"We are really looking forward to meeting the thousands of would-be engineers of the future that are due to attend.”

Over the past eight years, GUTS has attracted over 12,500 visitors. This year’s event will see more than 60 businesses come together to meet thousands of young people, including pupils from 50 schools in South Yorkshire.

The 2019 exhibition will include a virtual welding station, a giant Scalextric challenge, and a moonbase demonstrating the different engineering disciplines involved in space travel and exploration.

In addition, many technology, engineering and manufacturing disciplines will be on show — from traditional tool manufacturing to medical implants, sports technology, aerospace, rail, construction and the motor industry.
