£105,000 transport fleet investment

£105,000 transport fleet investmentTelford-based Corbetts the Galvanizers, one of the UK’s longest-established hot-dip galvanisers, has invested £105,000 in two new MAN TGX articulated lorries, following a series of contract successes totalling £300,000.

The new additions increase its fleet of vehicles to 10 articulated lorries, three rigids and 25 trailers — all adorned with the new corporate identity.

The 159-year-old firm now collects and delivers 95% of material with its own transport.Finance director Sophie Williams said: “We are able to provide complete flexibility and bespoke delivery packages for our customers, whose products include agricultural trailers, cable management systems, security fencing and street lighting.

If a client needs material on site at 4am on a Sunday morning, we can do that as we manage our own fleet and employ our own drivers.

There is also a cost up-side, as we can strategically plan routes so that we can offer the best rates.

“In 2018, we took the decision to replace vehicles every two to three years to ensure that we are always getting the best fuel economy and that we have the lowest-possible down-time.

“Our trucks can make up to 200 deliveries every week.”

In addition to expanding its vehicle fleet, Corbetts has replaced the roof on one of its factories to provide more natural light for its workers — and invested £30,000 in a new weighbridge.

The longer-term plan is to install an integrated system that will automatically record material coming in and out at despatch, making the firm more efficient and providing much better traceability to help with ISO 9001 accreditation.

The company, which was acquired by Ardenton Capital in 2017, has also recently launched a revamped Web site (www.wcorbett.co.uk) and joined social media ().
