Airbus flying high with new orders#aerospace #boeing Airbus moved ahead of Boeing in terms of net orders booked in the first four months of the year, taking almost twice as many. Airbus, which was given a big boost by a deal last month with Turkish Airlines, said it took 493 orders — some seven years production — between January and April; Boeing announced 255 orders on its Web site.

The deal with Turkish Airlines, which includes firm orders for 82 planes and an option for 35 others to be delivered by 2020, centres on Airbus’s A320 medium-haul family of aircraft — mainly the new fuel-efficient Neo versions. During the four-month period in question, the European aeroplane manufacturer said that it had delivered 202 aircraft, a 10% increase compared with the same period a year ago.

Boeing, which last year won back from Airbus the title of the world’s biggest aircraft maker, had to cancel deliveries of its long-haul 787 carriers owing to battery problems and delivered 183 aircraft in the same period. The company expects to resume delivery of its 787s this month.
